Messick is a Clinical Blocker

Grovetown senior offensive lineman Carter Messick has been a stalwart the last few seasons. With multiple years of varsity experience, the talented blocker has proven to be a versatile lineman who can make an impact at the next level.

Just last week, Messick was tenacious, getting low and driving defenders back in one of his best games of his career against Effingham County. The tremendous display earned him a spot on the weekly Bully Squad, where he was eventually voted the offensive lineman of the week.

“It hasn’t gone the way we wanted it to, but we still kept fighting,” Messick said about the season. “I have 30 pancakes, but I want to get to 40.”

The senior has been a consistent blocker at Grovetown for years, and one attribute that carries Messick above his peers is his mindset.

“My mindset is to dominate my guy while also helping my teammates, whether it’s getting double-teamed almost every down on defense or chipping on a combo block, then get to the next level,” he said.

Those downfield blocks and scoops to the perimeter display Messick’s mobility and intensity. He does an excellent job with his hand placement, allowing him to extend his blocks and stay engaged.

On the recruiting front, Messick has three offers from Morehouse, Clark Atlanta, and Point. He’s talking with several more colleges and has visits planned.

“I’m trying to get up to Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum in November and heading up to Davidson the weekend before Thanksgiving. Can’t wait to see what’s going to happen,” Messick exclaimed.

Unfortunately, this season has been tumultuous for Grovetown, and the Warriors currently have 2 wins with a couple of games left. For a senior leader like Messick, one of his primary goals is to finish the season strong.

“We want to win our last 2 games and try and finish the season on a high note, but I know it’s not going to be easy,” he said.

They face off against Bradwell Institute and Glynn Academy in the next two games; both programs are among the region’s best, so their work will be cut out. But as we always say, adversity presents an opportunity, and for Messick that means bullying defenders off the line of scrimmage and creating big plays.
