Griffin’s dynamic receiver Cordae Alexander has slipped under college radar. At about 5’8″ and 155 lbs., the slight slot receiver does not have an imposing frame, but bounces and breaks off tackles better than guys twice his size.
Just last week, Alexander made another sensational play, turning a short 8-yard hitch route into one of Week 10’s most electric plays. Alexander once again bounced off tacklers, kept his balance while tightroping the sideline, then showed the elite acceleration to burn the defensive pursuit.
Earlier this season against Northgate, Alexander made a similar play, and in both cases, the senior was voted one of Georgia’s top 3 plays.
“I credit it to my strength, balance, and hard work in the weight room,” Alexander said. “I run with a physical mindset, keep my legs moving, and never give up on a play. I always want to make something happen whenever I touch the ball.”
The dynamic senior had 133 yards and a touchdown in the 31-7 blowout win against Harris County last week. The program is 5-2, with major matchups against LaGrange and Central that could decide the Region 3 title in 5A.
“The season has been going pretty well. We’ve been working hard and getting better every week. We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’re staying focused and trying to finish the season strong.”
Two seasons ago, Griffin went 1-9 and was among the worst teams in their classification. Alexander and his senior class, along with the coaching staff, have led the charge, so the opportunity to win a region title is captivating.
“Winning the region title would mean a lot to me and my teammates. We’ve put in too much work not to go after that goal. It would be a blessing to see our hard work pay off, and we’re going to give it everything we have to finish strong.”
On the recruiting front, Alexander says that schools continue to reach out, saying, “I’ve been blessed to receive interest and opportunities, and I’m thankful for every coach who has taken the time to recruit me. I’m staying focused on improving my game and trusting the process.”
The regular season is almost over, and with the playoffs, everyone’s record becomes irrelevant. Line the ball up, get between the hashes, and a program like Griffin will be a tough program to beat. Part of that involves talented seniors like Alexander, whose explosive playmaking can break a game wide open.
They’ll need more of that in the coming weeks, especially this Friday’s game against LaGrange, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on the senior, how Griffin finishes this year, and more GHSA recruiting news across the state.
