Meet Trinity Christian SR Shawn Braxton

Shawn Braxton has been a key component of Trinity Christian’s success over the last few years. The two-way athlete has been a versatile player for the Lions, and last week against Riverdale he showcased his offensive chops.

Trinity Christian was just inside the 30-yard line where they did an inside handoff to Braxton. The senior went bursting through the middle where he slipped under one tackler, but was met by another Riverdale defender shortly after. Braxton collided, then started to churn his feet, while more Riverdale defenders started to pile up, but so did Braxton’s teammates. The play devolved into a scrum where Braxton continued to push the pile of humanity forward for an additional 20 yards until he crossed the goal line.

The play showcased the remarkable determination of Braxton, but also the concerted effort of his teammates too, who had his back, quite literally. So did the Trinity Christian community after Braxton was named to our weekly top 10 plays, and 24 hours later he was voted the #2 play in the state of Georgia.

Braxton has been off to an excellent start on defense nabbing 32 tackles, and 4 pass breakups. With the graduation of Trinity Christian’s two leading rushers from last year, Braxton has stepped up as a running back where he has compiled 209 yards and 2 touchdowns too.

He talked about the start of the season so far.

“My senior year has gone pretty well so far, we lost a couple of tough games at the beginning but have won our last two and have seemed to catch our stride as a team.”

Last season, Trinity Christian was the Class A Private state champions, but now in 2022, they are facing the realities of reclassification. The once Class A program is now in 4A, and with their new surroundings, there have been additional hurdles. Luckily, seniors like Braxton have worked hard over the last 12 months to improve their game and have helped make the transition as smooth as possible.

“I’ve improved my coverage skills most in the past year as well as my open field tackling,” Braxton said about where he has improved the most.

On the recruiting front, Braxton has been committed to Davidson since the middle of the summer. We asked the senior what made him decide to be a Wildcat.

“The family atmosphere from the coaches, especially Coach Berlin and Coach Abell and the players when I went to visit – Davidson was second to none. The campus was beautiful and the program has been growing each and every year.”

Davidson is an excellent academic school that only recruits the top student-athletes here in the state of Georgia. They look for players with over a 3.5 GPA, which Braxton easily clears with a 4.19.

With it being Braxton’s final year of high school football, we asked him to reflect back and talk about what he likes most about playing on Friday nights here in the state of Georgia.

“My favorite part of playing on Friday nights is the community that backs our program every game whether it’s home or away. Even games that are 1.5 hrs away, the stands are always packed and the energy from the parents and classmates is so fun to play off of.”

We definitely agree about the Trinity Christian community being so supportive. The school has only been in the GHSA for a handful of years now and has quickly become one of the premier private schools in the state of Georgia. Athletes like Braxton embolize what a true student-athlete should be, and that says a lot about Trinity Christian and what coach Dallas and his staff is doing.

The senior is sure to have more explosive highlights in the coming weeks, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to see the latest on the senior and many more athletes across the Peach State.
