Logan Johnson Proving Doubters Wrong

At this point, most of you have probably reading this have seen an article or maybe even two from us about Logan Johnson. Dating back to his sophomore year where he won a top play, the lightening-quick receiver has been consistently covered on our site – probably rivaling Ladd McConkey from the class of 2020 for most stories ever on the site. Well, Johnson did it again, making our top plays and eventually finishing 2nd in our community vote.

The 2021 receiver caught a simple screen pass out to the right. He quickly evaded one defender, but looked to be cornered nearing the right sideline, but the ever elusive Johnson had a trick or two up his sleeve. He stiff armed one defender, then stopped on a dime, making several more defenders dive at the ground. Johnson then reversed towards the left side of the field and took what looked like a 5 yard gain into a 20 yard touchdown. It was a roller coaster of a play for sure, but something we have come to expect from the 2021 recruit.

Johnson has seen the high’s and low’s of the recruiting world, hearing from colleges off and on, but eventually ended up with Troy offering, and he committed promptly after.

“To be honest, I still am at a loss of words. It is a blessing to be able to play FBS football at such a high level school as Troy. I cannot thank coach Lindsey and coach Carr enough for giving me this opportunity and I can’t wait to see what the future holds,” Johnson said on his recent commitment to the Trojans.

This offseason was definitely tough on Johnson, a player who thrives in camps and 7v7’s, because to put simply, he is too quick, and too good of a route runner to be stopped. We have seen plenty of college caliber CB’s struggle to keep up with him, but Covid-19 brought the entire camp circuit to a halt this summer.

“This offseason was an obstacle for everyone. I feel like across the country, not being able to practice as much as we needed to, and also not being able to visit college camps was also a big factor for many players in development and recruitment.”

Luckily in Johnson’s case, the long term contact with Troy, and especially his relationship with Troy’s inside wide receivers coach Carr paid dividends in the end. It also helps that every time that Johnson steps on the field he dominates cornerbacks, and the nation itself got a close look a few Friday’s ago against Rabun Co. where he had two touchdowns.

Johnson models his game after two of the most elusive players in the NFL in Julian Edelman and Christian McCaffrey.

“They play with heart and no fear and I just love the way they play the game.” Johnson then continued to talk about what separates himself from other players in his class. “I feel like my ability to create separation from defenders and my quickness is what separates my game from others.”

In just 3 games, Johnson has 15 receptions, 216 yards and 5 touchdowns – granted a few of those games have been easy wins for Prince Avenue. You can almost bank on those numbers to pick-up later in the season, especially in the playoffs where Prince is a regular attendee. No doubt, in 2020 they have championship aspirations.

“My goal for the remainder of the season is to win the state championship. This is my final year playing high school ball and I wanna make the most of it and I feel like that would just put the cherry on top.”

Well, Prince is definitely set to make an extended run into the playoffs here, so there should be a lot more Logan Johnson highlights on the way here, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to see his and many more athletes each weekend.
