Kyric McGowan is a Northwestern Wildcat

Earlier today Dalton’s star wide receiver Kyric McGowan made a monumental life decision when he committed to Northwestern University. The speedy North Georgia prospect announced his decision in a Tweet this afternoon.

McGowan’s recruitment blew up this spring after an outstanding performance at Nike’s The Opening, where he posted one of the fastest 40-times (4.47) at the camp. He went from virtually unknown, to a coveted national recruit with over 20 offers in about a month’s time.

After visiting Northwestern on July 24th, McGowan knew that the Wildcats were a perfect fit.

“Northwestern blew me away when I was there on the visit, and I don’t know how I could say no to it. I got to spend some time with the commits in my class, and I really enjoyed being around them. It’s a great school, great academics, great football program, great coaches and (Chicago) is an amazing city,” McGowan exclaimed.

McGowan is thankful for all the coaches that recruited him, but now that his decision is solidified, he is pleased to be finished with the college recruiting process.

“Although it does feel good being recruited by the top schools in the nation, it feels really good to be done with the recruiting process. A lot of weight has been taken off my shoulders, and I can focus 100% on our team goal now.”

Dalton High School won their Region Championship last season, but McGowan and his teammates have their goals set for something much bigger this fall.

“My upcoming goals for this year is to win the region championship and then win the state championship.” He continued to explain, “It hasn’t been done in Dalton since the 60’s and I want to bring one back to my hometown before I leave.”

With players transferring from all across the state, McGowan provided a refreshing mindset heading into his senior year at Dalton High School. “I also just wanna have fun, this is my last year playing with many of the people I grew up with, and I just want to make it one to remember!”

Northwestern is putting together a great recruiting class and currently leads the country with 17 3 star commits. With McGowan’s decision, they now have 18 verbal commitments. He joins J.R. Pace from Woodward Academy as the lone Georgia commits.
