Going into this season, Levi Duru was an unknown. He played in a spring game for North Paulding, then transferred over to Kell during the summer, where he played against one of Cobb County’s top schools, McEachern.
Duru was thrown into the fire, but after a couple of games, the 2027 6’4″, 230-lb. TE prospect looks like a true hidden gem in the class of ’27. Just last week against Sprayberry, Duru caught a short pass out to the flat. As he got upfield, a defensive back attempted to line up a tackle, but the powerful Duru lowered his shoulder, then steamrolled over the DB and proceeded to run the next 60 yards for a score.
The play was voted the best from Week 3, and really displayed the high-level upside Duru holds.
“The start of my senior year was amazing. The transfer to Kell really made an impact on my recruitment, and overall, my first 3 games in general,” Duru said.
Since last year, Duru said that he has focused on becoming more athletic and improving his technique.
“Definitely improved my body since last year; throughout the offseason got way bigger, way faster, and way stronger. My route running, my blocking technique, and just the work I put in, 25/8, day and night, and my trust in God has really shown these first few games,” he said.
For the remainder of the season, Duru just wants to continue to make an impact.
“My goals this senior year are to just keep making explosive plays and hopefully get a D1 scholarship so I can continue improving on the game I love.”
On the recruiting front, Duru said he has recently spoken with Georgia Tech and Georgia State. On top of those schools, Austin-Peay has kept in contact regularly, and the senior plans to schedule a gameday visit soon.
No doubt, Duru’s frame and explosive power to both run over DBs are impressive, but maybe even more noteworthy was that he can keep distance in the open field.
