Jacquez Washington a Corky Kell All-Star

Jones County outside linebacker Jacquez Washington had spent all offseason preparing for his senior season, and he did not disappoint in Game 1 against Lee County. He led a Jones County defense that did a great job of bottling up the Lee County offensive attack.

The senior was making plays all over the field, using his exceptional 4.6 speed. Standing at 6’1″ and weighing nearly 200 pounds, Washington will have to gain some serious weight to play linebacker at the next level, but on the field, his play says otherwise.

The Jones County senior ran away with the All-Star of the Game award and rightfully so. He totaled 15 tackles, two for a loss, one forced fumble and 3 PBUs.

An epic performance like that cannot go unnoticed, so we spoke with the senior linebacker about his recruitment and what he has done to prepare for his senior year.

CmK10SCWkAI9Tbd“My goals for this season include becoming the best team player and leader that I can be for my team and to continue to grow as I attempt to become a future collegiate athlete,” Washington said. “My overall goal however is to end my senior year with a state title ring and a region championship.”

Washington is a tough player, with a physical mindset when he steps out on the field. He looks much quicker at recognizing the play from last year, and the Jones County senior said as much.

“My biggest improvement from last year would have to be my physicality and my overall football IQ, I’ve grown into someone who is not only dependable but smart when it comes to knowing my assignments.”

Colleges have yet to recognize the sleeper from Gray, Georgia, but he is still adamant that he can make an impact at the next level.

“No schools have contacted me on business but I just continue to remain humble and work for that opportunity to get picked up by any school. When a school gets me they are getting a coachable player who is also a hard-working individual on and off the field.”

The Class of ’17 prospect models his play on the field after Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller of the Denver Broncos. “I feel he is the best linebacker in the league and I think I’m the best LB in the country so I try to play like the best.”

No doubt Jacquez Washington is a physically gifted player, and we were very impressed with his ability to see the field last week against Lee County. If the senior can continue this level of play, then colleges will soon take notice.
