Green’s Physicality Adds Edge to Prince Avenue

Over the last few years, Prince Avenue has been on the precipice of being the #1 team in Class A Private, but they just couldn’t quite get there. Heading into 2020, most pundits thought the program was among the top 3 programs in Class A Private, somewhere shuffled between ELCA and Athens Academy, but the first half of this season certainly looks different.

His impact has been huge, but it wasn’t fully felt until last Friday against Athens Academy where he went up against a UVA football commit at offensive tackle. During that game, green had multiple sacks and just caused complete havoc in the backfield. Athens Academy’s offense stalled, never mustering up any real threat, and Prince ended up blowing out the previous #1 ranked team in Class A Private 41-7.

Now Prince is the consensus #1 team in Class A Private, and you could argue that the physicality that Green has added on defense this fall is a big reason why. Green was a versatile defender last year at McEachern and someone that we projected as an FBS football player.

He’s added another 15 lbs. over the last year, and now approaching 250. The packed on weight is sending ball carriers flying backward when Green makes contact. The overall blend of speed and power is some of the best of any defender in this recruiting class in fact, and it’s hard to find a player with the versatility to play off the edge or lineup at MIKE like Green.

Green has improved a lot as a pass-rusher using his hands to get off blocks and is playing with a much lower pad level. Despite the late start to the season, Green has six sacks, which leads the region, and also 14 QB hurries.

On the recruiting front, Green has seen offers from Fordham, Austin Peay, Western Carolina, FIU, Penn, UT-Martin, UMASS, Liberty, SEMO, Coastal Carolina, and Georgia State over the last year. Given his early body of work, we think more FBS programs will jump into the action and offer Green, who shows the frame and upside to be a good defensive lineman at the next level, and looks like he still has a lot of room to grow into his frame.
