Georgia Southern Lands Talented Person

Georgia Southern added an athletic defensive back to their 2017 recruiting class when Westlake’s Tre Person announced his commitment to the Eagles last night on Twitter.

The talented senior safety from Westlake chose the Eagles over offers from UMass, South Florida, Troy, Georgia State, Tulane and additional mid-major programs.

“I knew Georgia Southern was the right place when I went down for a visit,” Person said.

After his May 27th offer from the Eagles, the coaching staff began to heavily recruit the athletic playmaker. That relationship built over the months played an important role in his October decision.

“The coaches were my type of coaches and they seemed to really care about me as a person.”

It was not an easy choice for Person, who was also being heavily pursued by Tulane and South Florida. FBS programs showed plenty of interest dating back to spring and if you watch his latest film you will see why. The senior shows incredible acceleration, running all over the field, and chasing down the ball carrier to make an impact tackle.

At 6’1″, Person has continued to fill out his frame and that improved physicality allows him to play even faster. The senior is an outstanding athlete with the ability to play any of the defensive back positions, plus he is excellent tackler out in space. His 36″ vertical jump and 4.13 shuttle time might indicate a higher ceiling at cornerback, but no matter where he lines up, Person will be a playmaker at Georgia Southern.

Person is the 12th commitment for Georgia Southern in the class of 17 and the 6th player from the state of Georgia. Read more commitment stories about Peach State players by clicking HERE
