Holmes (6′, 180 lbs) was a dynamic player last year for Aquinas and really impressed our staff during the state finals game last December against ELCA. He stood out from the opening kickoff, where the athletic back showed off his 4.48 40 speed and returned that very kick all the way back for an almost 100-yard touchdown.

Later on in the game we saw his impressive coverage skills on display, but his physicality on the perimeter is also worth noting. Holmes gets off his block aggressively then quickly squares up his hips to deliver a punishing tackle to the ball-carrier.

The Class of ’17 ball hawk has been hearing the most from Kentucky, Western Kentucky and Ohio. When asked about a decision date, Holmes replied, “I expect to make my decision like the 2nd or 3rd game of the regular season.”

Still plenty of time for schools to slip in and start recruiting the athletic defensive back, but the season is drawing near. Our staff doesn’t expect colleges to stop offering him, so stay tuned to @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to hear the latest recruiting buzz for Verenzo Holmes and other athletes across the state.
