Metter is the #9 team in our Class A Div II rankings and among the many playmakers creating an impact is Elijah Dickerson. The junior receiver has been great with 304 yards receiving and five touchdowns plus 55 rushing yards and two more scores.
With seven touchdowns on a limited diet of touches, Dickerson is making the most of his opportunities, which was the case last Friday against McIntosh Co. Academy. The game was tied 6-6, so who does senior QB Mike Ricks look to? No other than Elijah Dickerson. Even though he was double-covered, the placement of the pass was excellent dropping over the pylon, which allowed Dickerson to contort his torso to complete the acrobatic over-the-shoulder catch.
Metter took the lead 12-6, which ended up being the final result. The program remains undefeated in region play with a 5-0 record and 6-1 on the year.
“My junior year is going great. My teammates and myself are playing at a high level right now,” Dickerson said.
Dickerson was named to the top plays of the week last Sunday and 24 hours later he was voted the #1 play of the week. The incredible catch is a testament to the hard work experienced throughout the year.
“I would say I have improved most on my route running being able to create separation in my routes.”
Having an impact on the field is as much physical as it is mental, so we asked Dickerson how he approaches the game.
“My mindset on the field is just to be the best version of myself that I can be and be the best player on the field at all times which starts by being better than the person lining up in front of me,” he said.
Despite a 7-1 record and impressive junior film, the Metter impact player has not seen his recruitment gain much traction.
“Recruiting-wise, I don’t have any offers or hearing from any schools right now but I’m praying they will come in soon,” Dickerson said.
The junior will need to practice patience, but we feel confident that college program’s interest will grow in the coming weeks and months. With the versatility to impact the game in numerous ways and incredible hand-eye coordination, the 6′ 175 lbs. athlete is prime to be an effective impact player down the stretch for Metter. That should attract colleges’ attention.
“My goals for the last bit of the season is to finish the season with over 500 receiving yards, have over 10 touchdowns, over 5 interceptions, win a region championship, and the goal that everyone has in mind throughout the season is to win a state title,” Dickerson said.
With a crucial matchup against Jenkins County, who is also undefeated in the region, the title appears to be on the line this upcoming Friday. Metter will need to be firing on cylinders, and that means Elijah Dickerson will surely have his name called numerous times, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X for the latest on the junior and athletes across the state.
