Danny Clark is playing lights out his senior year. The Aquinas offensive lineman has been impressive, making impactful blocks; just like this week’s devastating pancake that flattened a Westside-Augusta defender into the turf.
The 6’4″ 260 lbs. blocker earned a spot on the top linemen of the week, and on Wednesday night, he was voted the top OL for Week 6 in Georgia. Of course, Week 6 marks the regular season’s midway point, so we asked the senior how he feels about everything so far.
“Coming into my senior year, I feel like I’m peaking on and off the field. I’ve tried my best to develop myself to a standard that I want to play at and I definitely think I’ve seen that work starting to pay off within these first few games. I have 17 pancakes in 4 games, and the scrimmage,” Clark said.
Before the season, Clark’s film caught our attention, and he seemed like a player who could end up being All-State at the season’s end. With a good frame, and a wingspan that is 78″ long, Clark has the upside to be an excellent blocker with swing potential as he continues to fill out.
“I think over the last year I’ve seen a different side of me from this year to last year. The film can speak for itself, take a look at last year’s full-year tape to this year 3 game highlight,” he said.
The senior has been tenacious blocking in space, showing good balance and body control while scoop blocking, and having the strength to drive the defender out. Clark is a more functional athlete from his junior year, resulting in better execution, especially while blocking upfield.
One underlying theme of Clark’s film is the pure-condensed-toughness that oozes from each second. He talked about his mindset on the field.
“I’ve engraved a mindset of domination, and relentless effort on the field. to think every play to get to your spot, and do it right, and with nastiness,” he said.
His tremendous progress and senior film also coincide academically with a 3.5 GPA, so college evaluators certainly should be interested. Clark gave us a detailed update on where he stands with colleges and his philosophical approach to the recruiting process.
“I think with recruiting, if there’s effort, and you have the desire to drive guys into the ground, and you do your job, recruiting should go in the right direction.” He continued to talk about visits, “I’ve taken visits to Lehigh, Bucknell, Lafayette, UT-Martin. I’ll be going to Presbyterian and Wofford within the next week or two. I’ve heard from EKU, Holy Cross, and South Carolina State within the past few days. and in November going to Appalachian State.”
Clark speaks well beyond his experience, and while many players fixate on inane ratings, he seems to understand that film is most important to recruiting. If you can play between the lines, then colleges will come calling, and it seems like this week could be a spark to his recruitment, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on the Aquinas senior and athletes all over this great state.
