Jalen Dampier, an impressive athlete from North Cobb Christian, committed to North Carolina Central yesterday.
The senior received interest from a handful of schools throughout the process including: Wake Forest, Georgia Southern, Ohio University, Western Carolina, Northern Colorado, Troy, and Wofford.
Dampier explained his final decision to Recruit Georgia.
“I choose them because that was the first school to believe in me and my talents and extend an offer!”
The coaching staff was a big reason why he committed to NCCU. “I have a great relationship with the staff and they have been developing great CB’s over the past couple of years since CB Coach (McCoy) arrived on Coach Mack’s staff.”
Dampier played both ways in high school (QB & CB) but the NCCU staff anticipate him playing on the defensive side of the ball. He is also expected to have an impact on special teams in the return game.
The process was a journey for Dampier, who finally arrived at his decision the weekend before National Signing Day.
“It’s definitely a relief to finally be done with it. I thank God that I was blessed with the opportunity to be recruited by some great schools.”
Experiencing the recruiting process was special for Dampier, but now looks forward to new beginnings.
“It was very fun but also very stressful, so I’m glad that it’s finally over and I look forward to getting to Durham and trying to win the 3rd straight conference title in a row.”
North Carolina Central offered Dampier on June 18th and pursued the North Cobb Christian athlete with vigor. At the end of the day, their hard work paid off, and they landed an excellent student athlete from Cobb county.
