Wherever Creekside needs Eric Paul Jr, he obliges with excellent high-IQ football play. The junior do-it-all athlete is highly skilled, moving between receiver and running back with electric plays or showing great defensive instincts at cornerback.
A true highlight reel play occurred last week against Pace Academy where Paul took a handoff tackle, but was stalled by a pile of players. Without a whistle or a defender trying to tackle him, Paul ran backward, which befuddled the defense. He then took the opportunity to hit the jets, sprinting past the pile of players and on course for his 2nd touchdown of the night.
The play earned a top 10 spot in our Sunday highlight video, and 24 hours later he was named the #2 play in the state. The big touchdown highlights Paul’s excellent season so far.
“My junior year has been going good. Focusing on keeping my grades and GPA up and dominating this football season,” he said.
Paul has a total of 732 all-purpose yards on the season and 4 touchdowns. His yardage is evenly split as a rusher with 255, a receiver at 247, and return yards on special teams with 230. All while contributing 9 tackles on defense. The expanded role at Creekside is credited to the time invested during the offseason, and his improved mindset on the field and off.
“I’ve improved most over the past year with being a leader on and off of the field, being more of an overall athlete, playing at a higher level and my overall confidence,” he said.
Recruiting-wise, Paul Jr. is hearing from a slew of programs and seems very optimistic about the start of the recruiting process.
“As of right now, I currently have 6 offers from: Western Michigan, West Virginia, Toledo, Liberty, Memphis, and Limestone. I’ve been enjoying the recruiting process. I’m blessed to receive the offers I have already. I’ll keep working hard because there’s more to come.”
Paul’s aforementioned versatility is a great asset for any program, and although he shows excellent playmaking on offense, his defensive instincts are equally impressive, if not more. He makes excellent reads on the football and utilizes his great acceleration to break up passes.
For the rest of the season, Paul has several goals to achieve.
“My goals for the rest of the football season are to stay healthy, finish the season strong and to be the best asset to my team that I can be. Also, to get back to the Benz with my team and to win the ship!”
Creekside was a preseason top-10 team in our 4A rankings, and after two tough out-of-state losses, they have won four games in a row without giving up a single point. They are getting back on track during the 2nd half of the season, getting prepared for a playoff push. Paul will be a key piece to the program’s success with his playmaking being showcased, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia to hear the latest on Paul and players across Georgia.
