The Scoop

Ricky McCrary, who also has a twin brother Roderick, is a well-taught defensive back that is fundamentally sound. Creating 17 pass breakups in a season will certainly grab your attention, that’s very uncommon for a sophomore butt says a lot about his positioning and reactions to the football. McCrary is a rock-solid open-field tackler showing very good form and leg drive. We absolutely love the way he gets downhill in the flats and shows really good patience reading the ball carrier. He strikes into the midsection and does a good job of wrapping up. Considering he is just 170 lbs., McCrary is very physical on the field. He gets inside the jersey of the receiver and doesn’t give them an inch. We are really impressed with McCrary’s instincts and football IQ. He might not be the biggest of DB’s but he plays a lot bigger and we are sure he will fill out into the 180’s by the time he is done with high school. We can see the 2024 DB landing some offers upcoming here during the evaluation period; he should perform really well in front of college coaches with pads on.
