Cook Commits to the Golden Eagles

Dalton High School senior Matt Cook committed to Tennessee Tech over the weekend.

Cook announced via Twitter: “So blessed and excited to say that I’m officially committed to play linebacker at Tennessee Tech!”

The Golden Eagles offered Cook just a few weeks back and he official visited last weekend. After spending quality time on the campus with the coaching staff and his family, the senior middle linebacker felt like Tennessee Tech was the right place.

XDSnEu3UCook reflected back on the recruiting process. “It’s a great feeling to be done with the process just because all the work has finally paid off and I’ve found a place that feels like home to me.”

His favorite moment during the process was receiving his first offer and that he could finally relax knowing he could play football while at college. This is also a big pickup for Tennessee Tech, who just landed a big-time sleeper in Cook.

The Dalton senior was awarded the Region 7-AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year last fall and fits the classic middle linebacker mold. He plays the game with a lot passion, and you consistently see him fire thru the line of scrimmage, blowing up the play in the backfield. Cook drives his legs well, and explodes through his tackles, driving the ball-carrier on contact.

The senior has spent long hours in the weight room too. In our +600 player database, Cook had some of the best measurements, including the strongest squat at 605 pounds. Amazing, considering his frame compared to much bigger players in our database.

Cook believes he is joining a program on the rise with Tennessee Tech.

“I want to be a part of something special, and special things are about to happen here.”

Something special could be unfolding in Cookeville, TN, especially if more of their commitments have a skill set comparable to Dalton’s Matt Cook.
