A tough blocker in the class of ’28 is Harrison Jones out of Chamblee. At 6’1″ and 265 lbs., Jones has been a hard-nosed ball player, using his powerful hands and good technique to deliver strong finishing blocks.
Coming off a Week 7 performance that earned him a well-deserved spot on the Bully Squad and the title of OL of the Week on the site, Jones has been a player on a mission this fall. The junior, who was on a BYE over last weekend, spoke about the season.
“We’re a young team sitting at 3-3, and the chemistry is getting stronger,” Jones said. “That comes from the work we put in day in and day out. We have a great group of guys on both sides of the ball, and my focus is simply getting better every week. I try to give each down my absolute best, watch film, and prepare for the next opponent.”
Jones is a two-sport athlete, where he competes using his functional strength on the track and field for the shot put and discus. That translates over to the football field, where Jones has excellent body control while engaged with a defender.
The numbers certainly match the film. Jones noted that he has recorded around “20 pancakes so far” and holds an impressive “91% blocking grade” through six games.
Jones dedicated the last 12 months to improving his game with one of the top offensive line trainers in the state.
“Where I have improved the most since last season is my pass sets,” he explained. “I got to work with some of the coaches at Velocity during the offseason, and I’m always looking for opportunities to improve.”
You know, the way Velocity trains OL block is starting to become self-evident on film, and Jones definitely has all of the hallmarks. The junior is impactful, sudden movements have real punch, and he allows for the junior stagger defenders, then finishes with a pancake.
Even with strong fundamentals, Jones is dialed into improving the fine details.
“I want to keep improving my footwork, hand placement, and angles at the second and third levels,” Jones said. “The bigger picture is doing those things to be a better asset to my teammates to win football games.”
That team-first approach is paired with an aggressive mentality the moment the ball is snapped. When asked about his approach between the whistles, Jones kept it simple: “Controlled violence. I want to be a menace to whoever is lined up across from me.”
In the classroom, Jones holds a rock-solid 3.6 GPA, giving him a strong academic foundation to pair with his on-field tenacity. On the recruiting front, he doesn’t have any visits currently scheduled for this fall, but he is actively taking control of his recruitment.
“I’m sending my film to programs that I believe are a fit both athletically and academically. I’m hoping this opportunity will help me get on the radar of programs looking for a ball player,” he said.
A disciplined, heavy-handed lineman who’s eager to improve and takes care of business in the classroom should start to grab the attention of college staffs around the country. For now, the Chamblee Bull(y)dog junior will have control over what he can, which is focusing on the season and improving each week. We’ll be keeping track of his progress, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to see more on Jones and standout prospects across the state of Georgia.
