Fannin County has experienced a season to remember. They are undefeated on the year with a 9-0 record and are currently the #3 team in Class A Div I. The unparallel season will go down in school history and senior running back Carson ‘Cadillac’ Callihan has been a driving source for their success. The reliable runner has shown great awareness on the field, reading his blocks, showing light feet, and timing his acceleration into the open field well.
Just last week Callihan was incredible rushing for 301 yards and three touchdowns in a 48-21 win over Christian Heritage. The senior earned Player of the Week honors on the website and talked about the successful season.
My senior year has been great. It’s been the best season we’ve had since I’ve been in high school. Our team chemistry is like no other and we’re not just a team, we’re a brotherhood that goes to war together week after week. Our O-line is second to none and they’ve allowed us to average over 300 rushing yards a game,” he said.
With 1422 rushing yards on the year, a 9.2 yards per carry average, and 21 touchdowns, Callihan is experiencing an All-State caliber season. His running style seems to be completely revamped from a year ago, so we asked about where he has improved the most since.
“Explosiveness and power. I’ve gained about 25 pounds since last season and it’s definitely paid off. I can feel a major difference between weighing 175 and 200 while carrying the rock,” Callihan said.
The explosive cuts stand out, and you can see Callihan get low in the hole, and explode into the 2nd level. The improved athleticism is great, but Callihan has also shown some potential as a receiver out of the backfield, which adds a lot of value to his recruiting stock.
Callihan’s senior film has attracted local colleges from almost every level of play, including a recent game visit to Georgia Southern. He talked about all the schools he is hearing from, and if any upcoming visits are scheduled.
“Sewanee, Berry, Millsaps, Georgia Southern, KSU, Georgia Military, Cornell. I have a game visit to KSU around mid-November,” Callihan said.
The visit to Kennesaw State should be a good one. That program seems like a good fit for the senior’s playstyle, but considering his great GPA, it is surprising to see the Academy schools not taking an interest. Give it some time, and their evaluators should come circling, but that’s just one opportunity, and when your program is competing for a Class A Div I title, they become boundless.
“I’d like to win the region and not only make it to state but return with a ring. I also want to cherish every last moment playing for Fannin County and this wonderful community and fan base,” Callihan said.
With each round of the playoffs, the attention will escalate. So far, they have dominated geographically close opponents, outscoring them by 375 to 82. Those are wild numbers but come playoff time, the boys of Blue Ridge will face off against statewide competition that will be daunting.
The #3 Rebels will lean on their reliable Cadillac-like running back for drives downfield, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to see the conclusion of Callihan’s high school career and so many seniors across the state of Georgia.
