Elon Receives a Big Commitment from Cole Neely

Cole Neely, a class of ’17 offensive lineman prospect, committed to Elon University today. The Sandy Creek student-athlete made his official announcement on Twitter around dinner time this evening.

Neely chose the Phoenix over offers from 10 other schools including: Western Carolina, Army, Towson, Air Force and Jax State. The quick offensive lineman spoke about what separated Elon from the rest of the competition.

“Elon has everything you would want in a college. It has a beautiful campus and it they had everything I need academically.”

Neely is a true student-athlete, sporting a 3.7 GPA. Finding the right academic program was an important factor in his recruitment, and Elon fits his needs perfectly.Cole Neely

“Their communications program is one of the best programs in the country and that’s what I want to major in,” Neely said.

The Sandy Creek senior has dedicated the last few years training to receive a scholarship to play football at the next level. We asked him what it feels like to finally be done with the recruiting process.

“It feels good not to stress about where I want to go to school at anymore and I like what they have to offer me.”

Sandy Creek had an up and down season last year, but Neely is hopeful that his senior year will end on a promising note. “My goals for this season are to win every game, win the region, and play for a state championship!”

Elon got a very fundamental blocker with Neely’s commitment. He gets incredible low, which allows him to fire off the ball, and forklift the defensive lineman out of the play.

He has a big motor, and stays in the play, making devastating weakside blocks on unsuspecting defenders. Neely needs to continue to keep adding size to his frame, but his versatility to play every position on the line of scrimmage makes him an important asset to any team.

He is the 2nd commitment for Elon in the class of ’17 and the first from the state of Georgia. He also thanked our staff, saying, “Thank you very much for helping me with everything, Recruit Georgia. Keep up with us as the season goes on!”

You can count on that.
