First Offer for Kell’s Shamaar Bennett

Shamaar Bennett received big news yesterday when he received his first offer from Western Carolina. The Kell HS senior defensive back prospect took to Twitter to announce the good news.

Bennett (5’11” 170 lbs) has been working very hard this offseason to improve his game. His offer from Western Carolina comes shortly after his visit on July 21st.

He spoke about what it means to receive his first college scholarship. “It’s great, it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something in life, but I’m going to stay humble.”

The class of ’17 prospect got to tour the campus, and see facilities on his visit. Bennett expects to be returning to the Carolina school very soon in fact.

“I plan on returning to Western Carolina for a visit. I’m actually going back for a Saturday practice,” Bennett said.

The Kell HS cornerback is a tough player, who does a good job of blanketing the receiver from the ball. He quickly squares his hips and then locates the pass to make the breakup. Last season Bennett totaled 24 tackles, 3 interceptions and 3 pass breakups, as well as, 1 fumble that he returned 99 yards for a touchdown.

Only a few other schools outside of Western Carolina have contacted him thus far. “The only schools I heard back from is West Georgia, KSU & East Carolina.”

With his senior season just a few weeks away, a lot can change in his recruitment, so stay tuned to @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to hear the latest news on Bennett’s recruitment.
