Lyles reads and reacts to the play with discipline, and you routinely see him put a hat on the ball carrier or shade out adeptly in coverage. The 2027 strong safety to nickelback type of prospect who is a solid tackler in space, lining up his attempts, dropping some big hits in space. Lyles has good reactions; you can tell the baseball background with his coordination and ability to read the flight of the football. Even when his head is not turned around, Lyles does a nice job of reading the receiver’s eyes and jarring the pass free. Lyles does a lot of small things on the field. He is a high-IQ football player who can provide run support, but also show the versatility to shade back into zone coverage or even show the hip quickness to play man. The 2027 athlete does a nice job of playing low and shows good technique sliding past blockers, using his hands to scrape off blocks. His ability to play off the edge and the productivity he showed in 2025 were impressive. Lyles makes winning plays. He does need to work on his tackling technique, dropping his hips, and getting lower on his attempts. The looser fundamentals are compensated with great hustle, and I do mean great. Lyles will make tackles across the field, which is constantly showcased throughout the 6-minutes of run time from his film.
