Recruiting Recap 8/12

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Thanks for everyone returning to our weekday feature, and those of who are new let me break it down real quick. This article is meant to highlight all of yesterday’s offers, commitments, players heating up (if applicable) and of course our sleeper of the day!

Our goal is always increase the exposure of future college athletes here in the state, but college coaches, we do offer a premium database. I know budgets are tight right now, so we are offering a reduced rate for the next 3 months if you sign up now. Contact recruitgeorgia1@gmail.com for more information on the class of 2021 and 2022!

Outside of that, we are continuing to push forward with content on the site. I hope everyone is staying safe out there in Georgia, let’s all keep a positive mindset about what lies ahead! I know Georgia can flatten the curve we are currently seeing, so everyone mask up and be safe! – David

Commitments

JacQuez Williams
2021 Jenkins
South Florida

Scoop: Williams is an underrated defensive tackle that we have watched closely since his sophomore year when we first laid eyes on him at the Elite Georgia Classic. He’s always been a plus athlete with a solid frame at 6’2″ and 275 lbs. The Preseason All-State defensive tackle plays the game fast, and though some schools shied away from his height, Williams plays with tenacity, and we think he had P5 potential. This a great pick-up for USF, their first here in the state of Georgia, but we expect more from our state by national signing day.

Devoris Calvin
2021 Dougherty
Samford

Scoop: With Dougherty schools closing down football until October, Calvin made the smart move committing to Samford yesterday. The preseason All-State defensive tackle is another explosive athlete, who gets into the backfield in a blink of an eye. Calvin has some legit potential as a pass-rusher at the next level, and had several FBS offers under his belt too. Samford always continues to land talented players in the state, and Calvin should grow into an effective DT in their system.

Heating Up

Christian Anderson
2021 Cedar Grove

The new transfer over to Cedar Grove is one of the biggest athletes here in the state at 6’7″ and 280 lbs. We have long been sold on his potential, and have stated time and again that Anderson is a D1 athlete. Well, the D1 offers are starting to roll in here. Anderson doubled up with UT-Martin and SEMO yesterday, and earlier this summer Anderson earned offers from Texas Southern, Morgan State and Lincoln. He’s also getting interest from Austin Peay and UT-Chattanooga, but all of this could really be the tip of the iceberg here for the long Cedar Grove offensive tackle. Definitely keep an eye on him over the next few weeks, his recruitment will continue to heat up.

Sleeper of the Day

Brown has a pretty springy step to his game and shows nice forward lean while running. He’s pretty dangerous in the open field, and Kell definitely called his numbers a lot on screen passes, but was also their consistent vertical threat down field for long plays. Brown caught a handful of deep post and fly routes. Hands appear to be pretty good but it’s his speed that separates from the defensive back. I would like to see him square up more on some of these longer passes instead of catching everything over the shoulder – sometimes that is needed when the DB is right on his heels. Needs to continue to add weight, but definitely think that Brown is set for a very good senior year. Brown already has a lot of FCS interest at the moment, but the 6′ 170 lbs. receiver could broaden that interest to more D1 programs over the fall here.
