Taurean Taylor is one of the most explosive backs returning for the upcoming 2017 football season in the state of Georgia. The rising senior is a speed demon out there on the field, leaving opposing defenses in the dust last season for 1,544 all-purpose yards and 27 touchdowns.
His big junior campaign earned him a spot on the AJC’s First Team All-Metro list, and he was also voted Region Player of the Year by the coaches in his region. His season ended unfortunately in the state title game when Taylor was sidelined with an ankle injury. That had a major impact on the explosiveness of Tucker’s offense in both the passing and running game—both areas where the 2018 athlete excels.
Taylor (5’7″, 175 lbs) talked about how his offseason is currently going: “I really don’t have an offseason. I’m currently running track, trying to reach state for a second year in a row, while also enhancing my leadership skills so I can lead my Tigers back to state.”
The hard work on the track shows on film when you watch the explosive back carry the rock. Taylor doesn’t only have straight-line speed, though; his lightning-quick feet allow him to escape situations that would leave David Blaine astounded.
He came on strong as the season progressed, having his biggest games later in the year. Taylor said that he is currently hearing from Miami of Ohio, Louisville, Maryland, Boston College and Georgia Tech, just to name a few. He plans to take a visit to Miami of Ohio in the very near future.
When asked about what he can add to a college program, Taylor replied, “I feel that I had a ‘top notch’ season and that I am a ‘top notch’ player with tons of potential and versatility.”
Tucker will most likely compete for a state championship again this upcoming season, and we expect Taylor to play a major role once again. His ability to make explosive 40-plus-yard plays, where he just gashes a defense using his 4.36 speed, should attract regional FBS/FCS colleges.
One part of his game that is truly special is his hands. Last season, we consistently saw Taylor make elite catches over recruits with FBS offers. That part of his game is by far the most underrated due to his lack of height, but in combination with his speed, it’s what truly separates him from backs of similar size.
