2018 DE Rankings Version 1.0

Version 1.0 of the Recruit Georgia DE Position Rankings starts off as a Top 16. Similar to receivers the defensive end position has serious depth in the Peach State for the class of 2018.

While most of these young men will either project as strong side or weak side defensive ends others will end up as passing rushing linebackers in a 3-4 front. It is not out of the realm of possibility that a handful will grow into interior defensive lineman.

Starting the year off #1 is pass rushing specialist Justin Mascoll of South Gwinnett. As a junior he recorded 68 tackles, eight sacks and 14 QBH’s. His effort did not go unnoticed as he was named AAAAAAA First Team All-State by Recruit Georgia and the AJC. Mascoll already has more than 20 offers on the table.

Coming in at #2 is the pride of Stockbridge. Brenton Cox was honored as AAAAA First Team All-State by both RecruitGeorgia.com and the AJC. This past season he racked up 75 tackles and a whopping 18 sacks. Cox currently has more than 15 FBS offers.

Adam Anderson played a huge roll in guiding the Rome Wolves to the GHSA-AAAAA State Championship. During his junior campaign he accumulated an amazing 31 TFL’s. He is a prime candidate to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme. Anderson was named AAAAA First Team All-State by Recruit Georgia and the AJC. Anderson has made an early verbal commit to the home state Bulldogs.

South Cobb had a rough season finishing (1-9). One of the few bright spots for the Eagles was defensive end Kwabena Bonsu. Bonsu just finished his third year as a varsity starter and is attracting attention from colleges all over the country. He may be a prime candidate for eventually playing inside.

Rounding out the Top 5 is another pass rushing monster that may project as a 3-4 outside linebacker. Darius Perry led Stephenson with 17 QBH’s in 2016. He also racked up 71 tackles, nine TFL’s and four sacks. Look for his stock to take off soon.

Other ranked defensive ends claiming multiple FBS offers at this time are Abi Okonji (South Gwinnett), Jamarcus Chatman (Rome), John Mincey (Clinch County), Tobe Umerah (Stratford Academy) and Thurman Geathers (North Cobb).

Future Recruit Georgia Position Rankings still to come are APB, ATH, OT, OG/OC, ILB, CB and S.
