Westlake’s Smith Jr. is Clutch

Junior year is off to a great start for Westlake’s Travis Smith. The 6’4″ receiver has been instrumental in their 3-0 start to the year where he has made several highlight-reel caliber catches.

No play in the early season has been more critical to Westlake’s undefeated start than last week’s over-the-shoulder catch by Travis Smith. With almost no time left, Smith made an unreal catch that only became more impressive when we slowed it down. His catch allowed Westlake to go up 46-41 against Cedar Grove with almost no time remaining on the clock and eventually was named the #1 play in the state of Georgia for Week 3.

“It felt amazing making the game-winning catch on such a talented team. My junior year has been nothing but awesome both on the field and in the classroom,” Smith said.

Smith’s incredible catch showcases his huge catch radius and excellent hands. On top of being 6’4″ and 195 lbs., Smith has excellent top-end speed to stretch a defense deep.

On the recruiting front, Smith has seen consistent interest FBS interest for months now, and just over the weekend, Tennessee offered Smith. That offer just adds to his to the pile of P5 offers that have been submitted recently.

“I think the recruiting process is fun, exciting, and full of surprises,” Smith said about the process so far.

“My top visits planned are Georgia, Tennessee, Colorado, Utah, and Ole Miss as of right now,” he said.

On the field, Smith said that his primary goal as of now is to win a state championship. In almost every poll in the state, Westlake is ranked in 7A’s top 10. For ours, they are ranked #7, and beating a program like Cedar Grove, a 3A powerhouse that can beat anyone on any given Friday, proves they are for real.

The win really cements the Lions as one of the best teams in the state in our eyes, but the season is long with many twists and turns.
