Thompson Looking to Emerge in Grayson Backfield

Camron Thompson waited his turn last year, he saw a star running back transfer over during the summer of 2016, but unlike so many players in Georgia, he didn’t run away from the competition, and remained at Grayson. The 2018 recruit (5’10” 200 lbs) still earned snaps, just like he had during his sophomore campaign, but now with his senior season on the horizon, he is ready to step up his game.

This offseason he took no breaks, and improved dramatically across the board. “I would have to say I improved in every way such as speed, strength, cutting ability, catching and staying calm and focused in any situation,” Thompson said.

Proof to that is the near 20 pound weight gain and major weight lifting improvements across the board. The 2018 back has maxed his bench out to 340 pounds and has completely changed his diet in order to make those changes. He also worked with Enrique Davis of Priority Training during the offseason, where they really tuned up his running technique, keeping forward pad lean, and reading his blocks.

He also jumped into the camp circuit over the summer. He made visits to Clemson, Memphis and Rutgers where he competed against some of the best competition in the region. He looked especially effective in 1 v 1 passing drills, where his quickness and acceleration was just too much to handle.

This upcoming season the Grayson backfield will once again not be short on talent, but Thompson’s steady play and tough running style should certainly earn him the most snaps of his varsity career. In fact, a source told Recruit Georgia that he could end up having a better season than the previous back who ended up playing college football at Michigan.

From an individual standpoint, Thompson remains humble about the upcoming season but believes his team could do something special.

“My goals this fall are for my team to be undefeated and to have a couple offers by then.” Considering the circumstances at hand, odds are good both goals can be met this fall.
