Sumter’s Reeves is all Business

This season has been a business trip for senior Da’Montae Reeves. The 2025 athlete transferred down to Sumter County from Hapeville Charter, and has adjusted into new roles.

“I like playing at Sumter County compared to Hapeville because at Sumter, we help each other work, we play as a team, we pick each other up. I love the program down here,” Reeves said about his new school.

Sumter County is a consensus top 10 ranked team in 2A. Reeves has been a major contributor to their success totaling 7 tackles, 5 pass break-ups, and 2 interceptions while also rushing for 273 yards and another 164 receiving.

“My senior year is going great. I put a lot of work in over the years to get to this moment,” he said.

The senior is extremely versatile and equally explosive in the open field. There was no better example than in Week 7, where Reeves made a remarkable punt return, emerging out of a crowd of players on the sideline and then reversed field for a great 45-yard punt return touchdown.

Reeves earned a spot in the top 10 plays of the week and was later voted the #3 play of the week. Truthfully, his punt return was one of the best plays we have seen all year, because it truly looked like Reeves was trapped on the sideline, but he had different plans.

“My mindset on the field is to dominate the person that is in front of me; to win every rep,” Reeves said.

The senior plays with an intensity that sets the tone, which follows his goals for the 2nd half of the season.

“My goal for my 2nd season is going undefeated and winning the state championship with my team,” he said.

Sumter County started the year with a big win over Crisp County and has not looked back since, going 6-0 and 3-0 in region play. They will face off against Spencer on Friday, which should be a good test for the program.

On the recruiting front, Reeves said that no schools have been in contact, and no visits planned for now. With a strong senior performance and an unmatched passion for the game, we feel like Reeves is a prospect that colleges need to consider.

Reeves has great speed in the open field running a 10.7 100m time, and now that he is adjusted to a new program, we feel like Reeves will thrive during the 2nd half of the season. The 5’8″ athlete has the versatility, and savviness of a veteran, and college programs will jump on board soon enough, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to hear the latest on the Sumter County senior and players across the state.
