Smith Paves the Way

Coffee has been playing great football this season with an undefeated 11-0 record as they enter the 2nd round of the playoffs. Powerful junior offensive lineman Kyler Smith on top of several more hog-mollies has been instrumental in the smashmouth style of play that has encapsulated the 2023 season.

“My junior year is going good so far, we just beat Chamblee first round,” Smith said.

The 6’2″ 289 lbs. offensive lineman is quick out of his stance and a relentless blocker in space and was appropriately voted our offensive lineman of the week on the website from the final regular season game.

Throughout the season we have been privy to Smith’s film week-to-week and we are encouraged by his progress. The junior offensive lineman has pretty light feet sliding in pass protection, but it’s the intensity and power he plays with when run blocking that should translate over well to offensive guard at the next level.

“My most recent improvement is finishing more blocks and just being able to have fun and play with my teammates,” he said.

No doubt, playing on an undefeated team that has continued to dominate is one way to enjoy your junior year. Smith plays on a tough and physical OL unit. They have helped pave the way for talented runners like senior Fred Brown, who is one of the leading rushers in 5A and a candidate for All-State honors.

“My mindset on the field is know my assignment and play loose and free and everything else will take care of itself,” Smith said.

Coffee certainly looks like a team that has everything going its way. With arguably the best offensive line in the classification and a lot of skill players to get out in space, the #1 Trojans are a team to watch closely.
