Central Gwinnett’s Kyle Fritz is an under-the-radar senior who has the versatility to be a productive player at the next level. As a junior, Fritz’s versatility earned him All-Region honors, where he played long snapper, defensive end, and tight end.
On the season, the 6’3″ 230 lbs. athlete has totaled 10 tackles, 4 for a loss, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 force fumble, and a defensive score. The ladder mentioned defensive touchdowns is the focal point of this feature.
Last week against Chapel Hill, Fritz was on the edge where he quickly jumped the snap, slanting through the B gap, and quickly found himself in the backfield. Perhaps his quickness into the backfield surprised the QB, but either way, a botched mesh left the ball bouncing on the turf, where Fritz seamlessly scooped it up. Before you knew it, Fritz was trucking downfield, stiff-arming a Chapel Hill player as he stomped his way into the endzone.
Fritz’s rumble after the fumble was voted the #1 play of the week, so we caught up with the senior to hear about how the season has gone so far.
“The start of my SR year has been going well, just to keep going 1-0 every day,” Fritz said.
Central Gwinnett is 2-1 on the year, and no matter the winner, the games have been blowouts. The Black Knights are improving each week, and much like their versatile senior, they are set to surprise many in Region 8 in 6A.
“My goals for this season are to make the playoffs with my team and hopefully get opportunities to play at the higher level,” Fritz said.
On the recruiting front, Fritz has not heard from any colleges, stating that he is being overlooked at the moment. The SR does believe he can provide a lot to a program at the next level.
“What I bring that’s different is high football IQ, a competitor, hard worker, and a great teammate,” he said.
Sounds like everything you look for in a special teams player who can provide several roles, including being a long snapper. With already two fumble recoveries on the year, that’s exactly the kind of momentum-changing plays you want in a special teams scenario, and considering his D1 size frame, there is a lot to like. Fritz is a solid blocker, and last season, he made some nice offensive plays, including a goalline touchdown reception against Mountain View.
We are bullish on the versatile senior closing out his recruitment strong, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia to hear the latest on Fritz and athletes across the Peach State.
