Sack-Artist Mike Allen Commits to Wake Forest

Lanier High School’s pass-rushing specialist Michael Allen committed to Wake Forest around lunch time today.

Allen’s commitment to the Demon Deacons might surprise a lot of recruiting pundits. The newly selected preseason All-State defensive end holds offers from 30 different colleges including: Alabama, Tennessee, Southern Cal, and South Carolina. On August 2nd the Lanier senior announced he would be making his decision on August 8th and his final 3 programs were USC, Tennessee, and Wake Forest. True to his word, today he tweeted:

With his commitment, Wake Forest is picking up a defensive end quicker than a hiccup. His ability to quickly change direction and his elite 6’6″ frame gives HS offensive tackles nightmares. Expect him to develop into an elite pass-rusher in the ACC at Wake Forest.

Last season, he played on one of the best defenses in the state at Lanier and his play was a big reason why. His explosive athleticism just cannot be coached, and he is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. The class of ’17 recruit has worked hard this offseason, gaining an additional 15 pounds from last fall, and is primed to have a big senior year this fall at Lanier.

The Deacons’ staff has worked hard building relationships in the state of Georgia since they took the helm of the program a few years back, and that dedication has payed major dividends. With his commitment, Allen becomes the 16th commitment for the Demon Deacons in the class of ’17 and 5th player from the Peach State (Jake Simpson Buford, Avery Showell Cartersville, Jeffery Burley Jackson & Troy Simon Milton).
