Recruiting Recap 9/9 – 9/15

The weekly routine of Mecole Hardman is certainly an entertaining one. The first part (and something I found humorous) was the 5-star recruit having no clue he had an offer from FSU—it is widely known he is mostly considering Tennessee and UGA. Then on Friday night, the Elbert County star had an impressive game, putting up 270 on the ground and five TDs while beating Westminster in a hotly contested 44-38 game. Hardman’s clutch performance was capped off by a game-winning QB keeper from two yards out with just seconds remaining.

On Saturday, Hardman visited Tennessee, watching the Vols lose a close one to Oklahoma. Just a week before, Hardman visited UGA, and he has a planned official visit to Michigan. He plans on making a “secret commitment” later this fall to his future college but will not publicly announce until National Signing Day.

Class of 2018 cornerback Christian Tutt soaked up some wonderful Cali weather while he took in the USC game over the weekend.

Archer offensive lineman JD Boone received his first offer from Stetson. The 2016 prospect is a big dude at 6’4″, 285 and has personally impressed me when watching Archer this year. He has a 3.1 GPA and 20 on the ACT. Watch his SR film HERE.

Kurt Taylor received an offer from Georgia Southern on 9/10. On Friday night, the talented back toted the rock for 210 yards and a TD against a talented Westlake defense, continuing Newton’s unblemished record. The next day the talented back was making a return trip up to Ann Arbor, Michigan to watch the Wolverines take on Oregon State.

Benedictine had four of its most talented athletes over at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday as the Jackets took on the Tulane Green Wave. The young Cadets took a picture in front of Tech true freshman and former Benedictine star Brad Stewart’s locker.

Buford’s Shug Frazier visited NC State over the weekend. The massive nose tackle for Buford is one of the Southeast’s most coveted nose tackles left unsigned. Florida, LSU, Miami and USC also round out the 6’2″, 320-pound athlete’s final five. Just a hunch, but I think he heads down south to either Miami or Gainesville.

Mill Creek center Tyler Fannin visited Clemson on Saturday. The talented prospect has visited Clemson multiple times in the last year and has been camping there since he was 8 years old. We talked with Tyler a week ago about his recruitment (READ).

Tony “Duke” Gray visited Georgia Tech according to Trent Smallwood of Rivals.com. The 4-star prospect from Central Gwinnett is widely considered one of the top offensive tackles in the country. He has offers from LSU, Ohio State and many other elite programs from around the country.

A passing combo that has impressed so far this year is quarterback Gabe Magerkurth and TJ Smith (6’5″, 185) from Wheeler HS. The two juniors paired with Purdue commit Benaiah Franklin create a formidable opponent. This trio, along with the rest of the Wildcats, provided Wheeler its first victory over Milton since 1997. Smith has not updated his HUDL, but here is Gabe Magerkurth’s HUDL account (click here)—TJ Smith is No. 15 for the Wildcats.

The life of a top recruit is a fast one. Just hours after losing to Grayson 26-24, Archer’s dynamic duo Jamyest Williams and EJ Price were on a plane flight bright and early heading up to East Lansing, Michigan for Michigan State vs. Oregon.

Two impressive senior wideouts visited Georgia Southern over the weekend. DeAndre Huff from Newton and Evan Crossing from Riverwood have had a great start to their senior campaigns and each spent the evening in Statesboro on 9/12.

Walton’s freshman wide receiver Dominick Blaylock does not play like a 14- or 15-year old. The son of former Hawks star Mookie Blaylock had a gigantic game against Etowah on Friday night, totaling 249 yards receiving and three TDs on just seven catches. He was voted Marietta Daily Journal Athlete of the Week for his performance.

K’lin Epps from Dutchtown HS had a monstrous game against Starr’s Mill. He was reportedly 17-of-28 passing for 356 yards, three TDs and one INT while carrying 26 times for 50 yards and one TD, a combined total of 356 yards and four TDs. When you watch his film, you see a quick-trigger release and a nice deep ball.
