Sleeper of the Day
Jaylen Elder
2025 Morgan Co.
Wide Receiver
At 6′ and just over 150 lbs., Elder’s slight frame might turn away college evaluators, but we feel that his speed is a true difference-maker that will move the senior up recruiting boards this fall. Elder turns upfield quickly after the catch and shows an elite burst, which you look for in D1 athletes. Elder is a smooth operator coming out of his cuts, digging his cleats into the turf and tearing up the field to get as much yardage as possible. You have to be impressed with his ability to vertically stretch the field. Elder is among the early leaders in the state in receiver yards so far. The variety in the ways he is scoring, on top of showing good route running solidifies Elder’s ability to impact the next level. When watching Elder’s earlier film in HS, you can see a noticeable difference in his top-end acceleration from junior to senior year. Now, if he can continue to fill out his frame with more muscle, then Elder should take another leap with his top-end speed, making him one of the true hidden gems in this recruiting class. Morgan County is playing great football this fall, so the senior is someone you want to watch closely each week; his recruitment could heat up quickly here as his senior film disseminates.
Commitments
Kelan Butler
2025 Jefferson
Georgia State
Butler is an impressive 6’3″ 230 lbs. edge defender who can run a 10.81 100m flat. Coupled with his great speed, Butler possesses an impressively equal motor after the football. The senior works from the backside and has the speed to chase down ball carriers anywhere on the field. Earning Butler’s commitment is noteworthy for Georgia State. They are attempting to make inroads across the state, and Butler is a high-potential prospect who has received P4 interest throughout high school. The 2025 prospect will have some big shoes to fill coming from Jefferson, where all-time Panther great Dontae Wilson also played, being named All-State 3 years in a row.

Three ‘n Out
Julian Shanks out of Arabia Mt. is one of the state leaders in passing yards. Through the first 3 games of the season, Shanks has 757 yards and 7 touchdowns while rushing for 150 more. The senior is a great all-around football player who can impact the game in many ways. He is an All-Region basketball player and among the best seniors in the state that colleges continue to miss. Shanks is that ‘guy’ and that is why he is considered the best player in DeKalb County through August.

Georgia Tech fans are excited about the early-season emergence of PWO Chad Alexander, but they might want to turn their attention towards his brother, Archer senior Colby Alexander. The speedy receiver has Ivy League interest right now and is using his blazing speed to get behind coverages for big plays. Alexander is a 4x track & field All-American and has run a shuttle time of 4.03, indicating he has elite quickness. His older brother will surely be on scholarship soon, and FBS schools might not want to make the same mistake again. Last week Colby Alexander took a visit to UAB, and his recruitment could start to heat up soon.

This play is wild to me, and missed making the top 10 plays by about 30 minutes. Lamar County junior Kaden Carter makes a crazy return off a blocked kick; even bobbling the football and going in reverse back to the goal line. Carter was able to collect himself, and then use his elite athleticism to maneuver around the pursuit for the crazy 100-yard score. Great clip here by Steven Carter from Next Level Prospects, the crowd reaction is priceless. Even better, Lamar County won 19-10 against Jackson, so the potential 10-point swing on that singular play had a monumental impact on the game’s outcome.
