Sleeper of the Day
Jalen Davis
2023 Cairo
Davis has a quality frame at 6’1″ 215 lbs. and the athleticism coming off the edge to apply solid pressure on the offense. He has a pretty quick first step and even faster hitting his top-end speed. That helps the 2023 edge defender get around OTs where they cannot anticipate his speed. Davis hits with authority. He can strike really all over the place but more times than not it seems to be higher. I’m a really big fan of the backside pursuit tackles where Davis shows all-out hustle. Colleges are going to wonder about his top-end speed and how it will translate to the next level. Davis shows good closing speed on film. He makes plays out to the sideline and is usually one of the first guys down on special teams too. My favorite play comes several mins into his junior film where he comes off the edge, leaps up, and tries to knock down the pass, but the ball is still completed. Davis then turns around and went sprinting downfield to make the tackle anyways. Davis has the frame to play MIKE, and next year he will get his shot with the graduation of their top tackler from the last few years. Davis has offers from Central Arkansas and Charlotte so far, but we feel like more D1 programs need to give the senior another look. Down below we have attached an individual game film most recently against Thomasville on the 5th. You’ll see his versatility playing in the middle and edge while also making impactful tackles in space.
