Recruiting Recap 11/19

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Thanks for stopping by, and if you are new here, this is a feature where we tally up all of yesterday’s offers and commitments to go along with a few other features!

I hope everyone is having a great week, and those who watched the NBA draft, how about the Hawks?! Onyeke Okongwu? I’m down with him being our big man of the future without while Capela is still under contract and in his prime. Feel free to reach out and talk some draft – LOL.

Well basketball thoughts aside, we are just 48 hours away from the last week of regular-season games. After that we will really ramp up scouting, but also still have a lot of senior profiles in the works, so stay tuned! – David

Commitments

Austin Trimble
2021 Cherokee
Marist

Scoop: Trimble is a very smart safety prospect who shows good coverage skills in both man and zone. He anticipates the play well and is a good open-field tackler. Marist was one of his first offers back in the spring, so good long-term recruiting effort by the staff the land the rock-solid defensive back recruit.

Smael Mondon
2021 Paulding Co.
Georgia

Scoop: Mondon has been one of the top athletes in the state of Georgia since his freshman year when he first started at RB. Those early years he showed elite athleticism and size. Ultimately he outgrew the RB spot, for the most part, and has made a big impact on the defensive side of the football at linebacker. Mondon has elite size at nearly 6’4″ and has elite weight lifting numbers too. He is a brutal hitter in the open field. Very good pick-up for UGA, Mondon is a perfect defender against a spread offense.

Dillon Holifield
2021 Roswell
Dartmouth

Scoop: The super-smart Holifield had received strong interest from Ivy League programs throughout his recruitment. Holifield has very nice size at about 6’2″, he does a very good job reacting to the play. He gets downhill against the run, but it’s his coverage instincts that have impressed the most. The senior out of Roswell continues to the tradition of Hornets going to the Ivy League over the last few years, and we expect him to be an impact player on the defense in the years to come.

Sleeper of the Day

Caleb Hernandez
2021 Dalton

Hernandez is a 6’2″ athlete with a solid motor. He definitely has a good wingspan, that’s a fact. Uses them well to disrupt passing lanes, should definitely get blitzed a lot coming off the edge. Naturally an explosive athlete, who rotates hips over well in coverage. I really like how he takes on blockers, uses his length well and gets off blocks quickly. Definitely has more upside than a lot of linebackers in this class. Just starting to improve in the weight room. Very encouraged with how he defends the edge. Good acceleration, close to FBS caliber. His tackling is pretty good, he moves exceptionally well laterally. Needs to just get stronger here. Has some legit hybrid potential, gets out to his spots quickly. Even marked the speedster at Cartersville in a scrimmage playing CB. Love his versatility, and he is plenty physical – has a good motor too. Should be a legit FBS caliber player with a redshirt under his belt. Looks like a good edge defender in a 3-5-3, his length is great vs a spread offense. Senior year he is averaging over 10 tackles per game and is at 95 total in just 8 games. We thought the senior was set for a big season this fall and he has not disappointed, a little more time in the weight room and Hernandez should end up being a steal in this recruiting class.
