Recruiting Recap 10/6

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Thanks for stopping by, and if you are new here, this is a feature where we cover all of yesterday’s offers, commitments and also a featured sleeper of the day. Sometimes we do a heating up feature, that just depends on if a recruit is seeing a sudden increase in college offers.

Hope everyone is doing well, and is ready for another great day! We will be continuing to pump out stories, so stop by this page to see the latest! Also, I appreciate everyone who continues to stop by and support Recruit Georgia, we are very thankful for everyone who continues to believe in our company.

Commitments

Rodney Wimbush
2021 Locust Grove
Davidson

Scoop: Wimbush is a very smart defensive back that shows some versatility to play both CB or S at the next level. He’s a very good open field tackler who gets downhill fast and very effective against plays out in the flat. Just a very physical player, does a nice job of getting inside the receiver and breaking up the pass. Wimbush is an excellent student with a 3.7 GPA, and should be a very good fit at Davidson.

Heating Up

Darris Smith
2022 Appling County

Probably one of the hottest recruits that not many still know about in the state is 6’6″ 230 lbs. Appling County edge defender Darris Smith. Soon after we discovered his film in August, Akron and Wisconsin offered. More schools have continued to offer over the last month now including Auburn, Miami & Syracuse. He’s up to almost 10 offers now. You cannot teach size, but also just pure athleticism – expect Smith to be one of the more coveted players in this recruiting class.

Sleeper of the Day

Andrew Dyer
2021 Archer

Dyer can make a cut on a dime and several times on film he turns the defensive back completely around. Nice little slot receiver. I really like how quickly gets up field after the catch. Shows solid acceleration, would like to see him work on being more elusive after the catch. He’s definitely physical and will lower his shoulder to get extra yards. Love how he runs his routes, and he does a good job of selling them. Does a nice job of breaking off them when the play is covered – has a penchant to find an opening in the defense. Seems like their 2020 QB really target Dyer a lot in 2019, now his younger brother will get a chance at QB now. Used him a lot to get first downs it looks like. Dyer has very good hands, and can take on contact right after the catch with no bobble or mis-catch. I like the 2021 receiver, he’s tough and just little more work on his elusiveness and I think you could see some bigger plays in 2020. Very good student with a 4.0 GPA and also a 1230 on the SAT too. Currently Dyer has one offer and it’s from Huntingdon, but we think more local programs will jump on during the final stretch here. Down below we have posted his highlights against top ranked Grayson back in late September. You can definitely tell he has very good concentration going over the middle taking some big hits but still coming down with the football.
