Gruner has good size and shows a quality arm on his deep passes. His ability to avoid the pass rush while also keeping his eyes up field seems to be a natural skill. Gruner can read a defense well, and does a good job of timing his throws in the holes of the zone defense. He is quick to recognize defensive error and makes quick decisions. Gruner is a solid dual threat who sells his mesh well on read-option situations. He shows okay speed moving up field, but where he can really improve is with lateral quickness. Gruner is a naturally good runner, and added quickness would really help with him eluding tackles. The signal caller has a solid release point and makes a few good throws while on the run too. His ability to create and see the field is pretty good and you see that overall he has a good feel for the game. Improving his footwork and stepping up on the pocket more consistently should help with his running and passing #’s while also dropping negative plays from dropping back too far when pass rush breaks through. When he steps into his throw he can really gun it, but throwing on his back foot we see the ball loft out too much. Gruner has been working hard this offseason, and wasn’t not completely healthy at points last year. He will be 100% heading into the 2018 season.
