Portress has a bruising running style. He doesn’t do much dancing in between the tackles and just bashes his way through defenders for more yards. Before his senior year he had almost not played at the varsity level. This year he earned a lot of reps, and showed that he can be that powerback capable of getting short yardage. He is a tough player, and will lower his shoulder looking to make contact and bring pain to the defender. He is a good change of pace player for a smaller college.
