Mathis heads into his senior year looking to make plays on the varsity, and really build a portfolio for colleges to look at. He does a solid job of picking up pass rushers on 3rd down, and I can imagine he has a future as a 3rd down back. At the Corky Kell 7v7 he looked slipping out into the flat and looked comfortable catching the football showing pretty soft hands. The 2020 recruit is almost 170 lbs, and has made really good progress. Mathis has a solid jump cut, and he times is pretty well getting vertical quickly. I think this summer he needs to spend time On the ladder, really improve his agility more so he can be more shifty out in space. Mathis dropping his pad level and getting a little more forward lean with his stride should yield more yards after contact. I think getting more flexible in the hips will really benefit his ability to explode out of his cuts more. Definitely look forward to see him making an impact on the varsity, he has some natural running vision, and shows he can make good decisive cuts up field.
