Johnson came onto our radar last summer when he made a few high-pointed catches at various college camps, and that carried onto this junior year where he mossed several DB’s. The long angular body of Johnson is a tough matchup for smaller DB’s, but what makes him the even tougher matchup is his timing going up for a catch. He gets pretty extension and positions himself early enough in front of the ball to make a nice play. No doubt, Johnson will get FBS interest during this recruiting cycle. He has some additional work as a route runner, and just getting quicker out his breaks. Right now he is just a deep threat, but has a lot of upside with his comeback routes since he does a very good job of doing just that – coming back. The frame and skill are definitely there, and he shows pretty good hands too. There is little doubt that he will gain weight, but the better question is when? His weight lifting numbers are old in our database going back to his sophomore year, but even if he made 50-75 lbs jump in the last year, that is still pretty low. Looking at his film, and it doesn’t look like he has gained a whole lot more in the last year either, but if he does, you will see an even more explosive player than even now. One word to describe Johnson is smooth.
