Whitehead has emerged this junior year much like we suspected, and has looked great as a pass rusher and tight end for his team. He’s a great athlete, that’s just obvious watching him move around in the open field. As a tight end, he’s very tough to get off his feet, and has some natural vision weaving around the defense. I really like his length at defensive end, he needs to work more on getting leverage, peaking and shedding his block. Right now his speed, and good acceleration helps him get around most blocks. Very good raw athlete that most D1 schools should have on their radar. Came on strong earning 1st team All-Region his junior year, an improvement from soph where he was 2nd team. Length appears to be legit, but right now I like his film more at defensive end than tight end. Needs more work with his route running and getting quicker coming out his breaks in the next year to get many looks. Continuing to work on his flexibility will help get out his stance better. There are a bunch of small things where Whitehead can improve – smart athlete too, so I’m sure he’ll get the work done.
