Barnes is one of the more productive linebackers in the lower classifications. He is a stoutly built linebacker who can absolutely destroy the ball carrier in front him. He shows really good flexibility, but would like to see him get a little bit stronger in the hips. He is a hard hitter, does a great job of squaring his tackles up, but would like to see him wrap up more at the waist. Barnes needs to be more consistent with his tackles, and would like to see him drop his hips more and explode through the hit. Maybe his best skill is getting off blocks, and that is in large part due to his incredible strength up top, but also seems to have long arms. Barnes has been one of the top linebackers in South Georgia for a few years now, but his top end speed is just okay. Still, when Barnes makes contact the ball carrier usually goes flying, even backs who weigh 215. Stops the ball carrier before the first down on film, several times on key 4th down stops.
