Spooner played a versatile role last year with 50 tackles, 8 tackles for loss and about 200 yards receiving on the year. He’s a good athlete, tested out with above average size at 6’1″ and 190 lbs. Spooner has a nice body type to play strong safety at the next level. He’s a physical presence that tackles through the ball carrier, hitting them in the numbers. The 2020 recruit uses his hands pretty well to get off blocks, would like to see him engage quicker, scrape off the block and get into the backfield. Watching more film can help but being more active with his hands should lead to more tackles for loss in 2019 too. Needs to set the edge and push the ball carrier back into pursuit. I would like to see him make more plays in pass coverage too. Spooner has good quickness running a sub-4.5 shuttle time and he shows a light back pedal in coverage. I could see Spooner moving over to linebacker this fall. As a receiver, he makes tough catches over the middle and has pretty reliable hands too.
