Pickens has been one of the state’s top tacklers over the last few seasons with 305 going into his senior year. He has been the hammer and heart of the Long County defense. Pickens plays aggressive and low, striking with good impact that efficiently drive the ball carrier to the ground. With his low center of gravity, Pickens gets good leverage on his attempts and very strong tackler. Very little yards after contact. Pickens is intense getting off blocks, meeting the lineman with a lot of force up top and using his quickness to greet the ball carrier. The senior is excellent at dropping his hips, getting low and filling the hole to stop a ball carrier between the gaps. Solid agility and instincts on the field. He even looks faster getting out to the sideline from his junior film. Pickens is the type of player who could really excel with a local program becoming one of their leading tacklers in due time. He is another player that the Long County staff raves about too; standout on the baseball diamond and has a 3.9 GPA with a 1050 SAT.
