Sophomore That Leads Team In Tackles, Didn’t Play A Varsity Snap During Freshman Year

Mathis has been a 2020 linebacker that has been on our radar heading into this sophomore year, and now that JR year is up ahead, we think that he is set to really jump on D1 school’s radars. Mathis is a crazy hustle player, he fires through the gaps like his hair is on fire, and really impressed with the improvement in his pursuit angles. Mathis is a smart player at reading the play quickly right at the snap. He has a compact body type, nice weight lifting numbers for a player his age. Impressive run stopping instincts where he does a good job of reading the play and pushing the ball carrier back into pursuit. Would like to see him in more coverage situations at this point, but his whole body of work in his early HS career is impressive. He’s just a classic tough football player. Could even see schools interested in him as a lead blocker, especially if his lateral quickness does not improve much over the next year. Junior film he is really unloading some big hits, Mathis is looking like the D1 caliber MLB recruit that we always expected.
