Borders was the sole All-State selection on the site out of Rockdale County in 2024. The 6A standout defender has been tested against top-flight talent throughout his varsity career. At around 6’2″ or 6’1″, the aggressive defensive back reads the field well and gets a good early jump on the play. Borders is instinctive against the run. He plays the pursuit angles well, which led to several big-time tackles; one that was even in consideration for play of the week last fall. Borders’ top-end acceleration and willingness to square up his tackle attempts and run through the ball carrier is impressive. At around 170 lbs., that level of physicality makes it even more noteworthy. He is patient reading the play, moving well laterally and keeping his pads parallel to the LOS, which allows for some clean tackles in space. Borders is sold in coverage, dropping back and flipping his hips, but would like to see him continue to make an impact in pass coverage. With his length, Borders’ breakup radius should be able to create more PBUs and that’s an area to focus on this offseason. Ideally, Borders should fill out his frame to at least 190 lbs, and considering his skill set as of now, strong safety seems to be the most natural. As of now, Borders has offers from EKU and Bryant University, but with the evaluation period kicking up, that number should multiply, so stay tuned.
