Watched Smith in the Corky Kell Classic and it’s clear the senior will be the leading tackler on the Rome squad this year most likely. He takes pursuit angles with a ton of urgency, and is looking to flat knock the ball carrier out when tackling. His consistent energy gets him a ton of assisted tackles, which if you watch the Rome team, the way their defense works so well, is how they flow to the football, and Smith is no exception. I can see him getting a good bit of forced fumbles this fall in fact. Getting into the backfield a lot this season, against a pretty good Kell team Smith had 4.5 tackles for loss. Smith led his team in tackles senior year and earned first team all-state/region defensive player of the year.
