Deon King – ATH
Woodward Acad.

HT: 5’11”

Class: 2022

King packs a punch, and just right off the hoof, you see the powerfully compact athlete bring the hammer on special teams. Seriously, one of the bigger hits from the 2020 season. The senior recruit plays mostly NB. He has very good body control moving around, showing nice balance. Definitely like his body composition in terms of raw power. Changes directions really nicely. Does a pretty good job of reading the QB’s eyes when he is in a soft cover 2 zone defense. Pretty agile, at least does a good job of recognizing the play and getting in front of it. King has worked hard over the years at DB. Needs to do a better job of squaring up his pads parallel to the LOS. Pursuit angles are pretty good. Pretty good at setting the edge and pushing the ball carrier back into pursuit. King is a rock-solid football player. He can definitely improve at getting off blocks. Overall, we think the D1 interest will continue for the hard-hitting NB. He should get some additional reps at RB his senior year as a change of pace back behind their star back.
