Wright started off his junior year a little slow, and we weren’t exactly impressed with the 6’4″ 215 lbs. hybrid receiver, but then a light switch went on. We had to completely overhaul our scouting report on Wright. Where his physicality didn’t originally seem to match his immense size, now the 2022 recruit is running with authority trucking over defenders and manhandling the much smaller competition. The big athlete has the frame of a tight end, and that’s where he will continue grow as an athlete. We expect him to be around 250 at the college level. Back to the improvements over the course of the season. Wright might have just improved week to week more than anyone in this recruiting class and eventually earned Athlete of the Year for his region. Wright’s route running is still a work in progress, but shows good body control going up for catches and nice sideline awareness. His blocking also improved, and Wright is knocking defenders off the ball, granted we would like to see him do a better job of driving his legs through the block. Wright did a nice job of fighting for yardage throughout the season, but it’s his ability to follow his blockers and get around tacklers that improved. He might get some reps at QB in 2021, that’s yet to be decided or not, but you can definitely add Wright’s name to the pile of FBS talent at TE in the state of Georgia.
