What a great year for the freshman on the runner-ups in the state. Matthews had 76 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss and 7 sacks. He was very active, and shows outstanding fundamentals for his age group. At 6′, and 240 lbs., a lot of colleges will be sitting here and wondering how much more will he grow? That’s always tough to know, but Matthews has a strong base already in the lower body and is extremely mentally tough. His motor is elite for his age group. By the time Matthews is a senior, there is little doubt he will be around 300 lbs., but what will make or break his recruitment is how much he grows over that span. Even still, his elite fundamentals will separate him from so many in this class and no doubt a prospect you must keep an eye out on for the next 3 years.
