What makes you stand out as a future collegiate athlete?

2nd team all region LB, 62 tackles, very hardworking

Phillips has been a productive linebacker at Bainbridge who saw a good uptick in his tackle total in 2023 going from 62 to 75. An 80 tackle season upcoming shouldn’t be out of question, but you never know how those totals will be compiled from one year to the next. What we can see is that Phillips is an active linebacker who is disruptive to the offense both on the run or through the air. He closes the gap on the ball carrier, showing good instincts in reading the play and maneuvering around the blocks. Plays with violent hands and gets very good leverage while taking on blocks. Peaks and rips through his opponent. Phillips shows good hip flexibility and looks very agile while in pass coverage. He plays out wide at times, more where a nickle would be, and looks comfortable dropping back in coverage getting good depth, and showing a good feel reading the QB’s eyes. Phillips’ best skill is his tackling though. He does an excellent job gauging his attempt and shows excellent leg drive through contact. The consistency in how quickly he gets the ball carrier down is excellent. Considering he is 6′ and around 195 lbs. (a 10 lbs. increase from last year), Phillips is undersized at linebacker. We like his agility in coverage, but continuing to improve his top-end speed is a priority. He has the upside to be a D1 football player but is better suited to be a strong safety. Phillips is versatile, and that will certainly catch the attention of FBS programs. You have to love his football instincts. His weightlifting is a year outdated, so I’m sure he has surpassed most of these maxes.
